Your dentist may not be able to see all that they need to just by looking at your teeth – they may need to take an x-ray. The x-rays pass through your teeth and bones and are picked up on an x-ray film or a digital receiver. Your dentist may use a device to hold the film, which may be a little uncomfortable.
Your dentist will study the x-ray film or computer screen for signs of decay, gum-disease and areas of infection in the bone. This information is very useful for picking up early signs of disease before you become aware you have a problem.
