Unfortunately, very occasionally, damage to the nerves that supply sensation to your teeth, lips or tongue can occur as a result of dental surgery.
This is obviously very alarming for the patient.
Damage to the nerve can show itself as prolnged numbness, change in sensation or pain.
This is usually temporary, but can be permanent.
You should seek urgent advice from your dentist or hospital if you suffer from prolonged numbness after a procedure (more than 6 hours after)
